Jewelry Television Debuts

GemBasics Gemology Course

Retailer collaborates with
Gemmological Association of Great Britain.

Jewelry Television® and the Gemmological Association of Great Britain announced a collaboration on an introductory online gemology course called GemBasics. More than a year and half in development, the online course was designed to address the educational needs of JTV’s viewers and fill an existing void in gemological education.

Jewelry Television selected Gem-A since the organization is the world’s longest established provider of gem and jewelry education. In addition to the GemBasics course developed for JTV, Gem-A offers multiple courses that provide advanced training and education in the fields of gems and jewelry. Gem-A courses are used in 25 countries around the world.
“As part of our vision to bring the world of gems and jewelry to all our viewers, JTV quickly realized the need and desire for continuing education. To that end, we developed an online Learning Library that provides articles by trade experts, a glossary of gem and jewelry terms, an E-publication called In the Loupe, and an extensive treatment and disclosure chart that is the most comprehensive available,” said Gerald D. Sisk Jr., graduate gemologist and co-founder of JTV. “We also offer seminars and conferences as part of our ongoing commitment to education. We understood that our viewers are passionate about gems and jewelry, so the commitment to develop a GemBasics course with the Gemmological Association of Great Britain was a logical extension of our vision.”
Developed in cooperation with Dr. Jack Ogden and the educational staff at Gem-A, GemBasics includes all the necessary components for completion; tools, gemstones and written course material, consisting of 12 lessons, are augmented by online video and technical support. Students are allotted a 12-month study period. After successful completion of the final exam, students are awarded a statement of achievement and acknowledged as a Gem-A Colored Stone Associate.
“Understanding gems is about recognizing the beauty of nature. For a hundred years, Gem-A has had the privilege of introducing people to the world of gemology and we are greatly looking forward to working with JTV to share our passion with an even wider audience,” Sisk said.

JTV Partners With Gem-A on Education Project

Jewelry Television and Gem-A Partner to Educate Consumers on the World of Gemstones

Retailer collaborates with the world’s longest established gemological institution to offer exclusive gemstone courses

Jewelry Television® (JTV), the nation’s leading broadcast retailer of jewelry and loose gemstones, has entered into an agreement with The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) to develop a proprietary course for the shopping retailer called ‘Gem Basics’. The online course will introduce consumers to a wide variety of gems and explain the basics of gemology and gem identification. The course also covers gem origins and lore, and will include a basic kit of gem identification tools and a selection of gems.
Quote startJTV’s ‘Gem Basics’ provides an entry-level course for beginners and hobbyists, but also provides a stepping stone for more-advanced studies through The Gemmological Association of Great Britain.Quote end

“Gemstones play an important role in our culture,” said Jerry Sisk, graduate gemologist and co-founder of JTV. “As the largest retailer of loose gemstones in the world, we felt a strong obligation to take a leadership role in the education of our viewers as well as the general consumer. To that end, we developed an extensive Learning Library and made the decision to partner with one of the world’s most respected gemological institutions. It is our express belief that a better-educated consumer will make more well-informed decisions, and will purchase with greater confidence. JTV’s ‘Gem Basics’ provides an entry-level course for beginners and hobbyists, but also provides a stepping stone for more-advanced studies through The Gemmological Association of Great Britain. This is a win-win opportunity for the consumer and JTV.”
Gem-A currently offers a range of courses that result in internationally recognized gem qualifications. The development of the Gem Basics Course has been overseen by Dr Jack Ogden, Gem-A CEO and a well-known authority in the gem and jewelry field.
“As the first retailer in the world to sell loose gemstones on television, JTV’s extensive reach has increased the appetite for loose gemstones and colored gemstone jewelry among consumers,” said Ogden. “Gem-A is pleased to help further JTV’s mission of opening the world of gem knowledge to a wider audience.”
Gemology is the science of gems. It encompasses the methods of formation as well as the study of properties and characteristics necessary for classification and identification. Intended for gem collectors, enthusiasts and industry professionals, the Gem Basics course encourages continued learning and a deeper understanding of the beauty and precision of nature.
Sisk went on to say, “As the longest established gemological institution in the world, Gem-A has an international reputation for excellence and we are honored to be associated with them.”

New Senior Buyer Joins the Jewelry Television Team

Jay Boyle announced this week the latest addition to the Senior Buying Team at JTV! George Williams!

Apparently, as a result of the Tucson Gem Show the JTV buying team is taking their act on the road...ROAD TRIP!!!!

The new Sr. Buyer, George Williams is a long time colleague of Jay & Shawn...a brief intro from their new "Gemstone Journey" blog...

"I started in this "biz" in 1969 in the opal fields of Australia and I've
traveled the world buying and selling gems for 40 years now. I love all gemstones but my real passion came from an emerald mining venture in Brazil, so you know I'm going to be looking for incredible emerald deals to bring home.

I'm heading out with my long time friend and JTV buying partner, Jay Boyle. With the exception of starting our journey all the way across the globe at the Bangkok Gem and Jewelry Show, we don't have a set itinerary. From Bangkok we will travel to where the best deals in the industry take us--maybe discovering new hot spots, or even new mines that will open more avenues of product delivery to our customers--all at prices we have never been able to offer you before!

Keep coming back to jtv.com/gemstonejourney for most posts from around the world! "

http://snipurl.com/cylrq [www_jewelrytelevision_typepad_com]

I will never get a chance to get to the Bangkok Show - so take lots of photos and SHARE!!!

Can't wait for the adventure to begin...
