NCDIA Membership Grows with New Benefits and Upcoming Events

NCDIA Membership Grows with New Benefits and Upcoming Events

Colored Diamond Jewelry by Etienne Perret

New York, NY, July 9, 2012 – Following a restructuring and relaunch earlier this year, The Natural Color Diamond Association (NCDIA) has seen exponential growth since the Las Vegas shows last month. During JCK, the NCDIA hosted an extremely successful networking event with more than fifty attendees offering a fun and relaxed environment for members, from retailers to wholesalers, to interact and talk about Natural Color Diamonds. With the momentum gained in Las Vegas, the NCDIA is looking forward to a landmark year full of exciting events and developments directed towards both the industry as well as consumers.

The debut issue of the NCDIA newsletter “Natural Colors” dropped in Las Vegas and with positive feedback from NCDIA members.  Dedicated to yellow diamonds, the newsletter was full of valuable educational information and selling tips from Thomas Gelb, NCDIA Educational Director.  The next issue, slated to run in September, will be dedicated to Pink Diamonds, and the newsletters will continue to be published quarterly, highlighting a different color each issue.
Currently, the NCDIA is planning a consumer focused educational event set to take place in October at the Kristin Hanson Gallery in NYC. The first of its kind, the event would give NCDIA members the opportunity to display their products and interact with a hand-selected group of high-net worth consumers in a fun and social environment. The event will also feature discussions and panels featuring everything that the consumer needs to know when buying a natural color diamond.

The NCDIA is also in the process of developing a new website featuring interactive components for both members and consumers including the latest information on Natural Color Diamonds, podcasts, a design gallery, retail locater, and a membership login with a Natural Color Diamond request dashboard. The website is set to go live in early September.

About the NCDIA
Founded in 2003, the NCDIA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to increasing the awareness of natural colored diamonds. With a membership drawn from among the world's most prominent rough color diamond producers, diamond and jewelry manufacturers, and retailers with established networks, NCDIA is the preeminent public advocate for natural color diamonds. The NCDIA is founded on the premise that natural color diamonds are not mere exotic products but are rare, valuable, and desirable objects of unusual beauty. The NCDIA ensures that all of its members are properly educated on NCD and FTC compliance, accurately represent the NCD products bought and sold.

Jewelry Week Las Vegas: Is the World Of Diamonds As You've Known It About To Change Forever?

Are these world renowned diamond experts clairvoyant?
AGA-diamondexperts-LV2012

Through the Looking Glass - The Future of Diamonds
AGA Las Vegas Conference - Thursday, May 31, 2012 - 1- 5 pm
Is the World Of Diamonds As You've Known It About To Change Forever?
It might change in ways that we have never envisioned, and this conference is going to be the first to address issues no one else has dared to discuss until now. This could be one of the most important conferences ever on diamonds.

For thousands of years-since man's fascination with diamonds began-diamonds have been highly sought-after for every imaginable reason. They are steeped in history and intrigue, fact and fiction, and hold an unrivaled position as one of the most valuable of all things. Jewelers world-wide agree that diamonds are at the core of every successful jewelry business today.

The story of diamonds, however, continues to unfold. It has seen many challenges and many changes: concerns about the depletion of natural diamond production; innovative high-tech treatments; new sources of colorless and fancy-color laboratory diamonds; and advances in technology for applications in other fields, from medicine and aerospace to the electronics industry.

Are YOU ready for the future of diamonds?

Come hear leaders from the gem and jewelry field -- and from other fields in which diamond technology is essential - as they address the issues surrounding diamond demand and supply, innovative technology, and the impact on diamond treatments, synthesis, and detection.

MODERATOR   AGA-Alex_Grizenko
Alex Grizenko, CEO of Lucent Diamonds, will have you sitting on the edge of your seat as he sets the stage for a riveting exploration of the world of diamonds, guiding the expert panelists to address the future from their own set of experiences, and giving the audience a unique opportunity to envisionthrough a kaleidoscopic looking glass... the future of diamonds!

A renowned expert on new diamond technologies, Alex Grizenko is regarded today as one of the market leaders in laboratory-grown diamonds and treated natural diamonds.

SPEAKERS/PANELISTS  AGA-Martin_Rapaport
Martin Rapaport established in 1978 the Rapaport Diamond Report, the primary source today of diamond price and market information. In 1980, he created RapNet - The Rapaport Network, the first and world's largest electronic diamond trading network, providing daily diamond listings of 550,000 diamonds worth over $4.5 billion dollars, with 3,900 members of the diamond trade in 70 countries.

Can We Really Rely On A Continuous Supply Of Diamonds Any More...
  AGA-Howard_Coopersmith
It's getting much harder today to find diamonds in a range of sizes and qualities. What is the future of diamond production and availability. Howard Coopersmith is a Registered Professional Geologist with over 35 years of experience in diamond deposits, project evaluation, due diligence, feasibility, development and mining. His work has gained the recognition as one of the world's most respected diamond mining expert.

So Why Are Heated Diamonds HOT...   AGA-Sonny_Pope

For most of the 20th century, diamond "treatments" were superficial and easy to spot. By the end of the 20th century, gemology was having a hard time keeping up with technology. The gemological labs did catch up but now let's fast forward to 2012, to expert panelist Sonny Pope, CEO, Suncrest Diamonds. He has been actively involved in the high pressure, high temperature field for twenty-five years, innovating and perfecting the process.

And Will Fancy Color Diamonds Some Day Outnumber the Colorless...

AGA-Jay_Neogi
Satisfying the demand for color diamonds might prove possible with atechnology created by Jay Neogi, the Co-founder of Serenity Technologies that uses an ion induction color treatment to any natural or synthetic diamonds. Some have called it coating. Serenity states that their diamonds are stable under all normal use conditions including elevated temperatures, sonication baths and dilute acids/caustics used during jewelry setting, rhodium plating, repair and cleaning operations.

Will My Blue Diamond Ring Also Be My Supercomputer...  AGA-Robert_Linares

There are several ways to grow a diamond, from HPHT to CVD, and there aremany different types of growers. Labs are perfecting the science of diamondgrowth for applications that tend far beyond the gem and jewelry industries. Founder of Apollo Diamonds, Dr. Robert C. Linares is a co-developer of CVD Technology. His research allows electronics and optics technology to move beyond the limitations of silicon based devices.

Tell Me That You Can Tell The Difference.....     AGA-James_Shigley

Today the sophisticated grading labs can distinguish between natural and synthetic diamonds, and natural and treated color. But can all labs do it effectively? Dr. James Shigley is a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Gemological Institute of America. He continues to advance GIA's gem research program to support the jewelry trade to meet the challenges of gem identification of natural, synthetic, and treated diamonds.

Mirror Diamond Necklace to be Auctioned at Bonham's

(Reuters) - A "Mirror Diamond" necklace bearing five Mughal empire pendant diamonds with emerald drops has been offered for private sale at a price of $20 million, auction house Bonham's said on Monday.
It said the Mughal Mirror Diamond necklace was an extraordinary example of the colourless, rough diamonds discovered in the ancient Golconda mines in India during the height of the Mughal empire across the Indian Subcontinent in the 16th and 17th centuries, which were reserved for royalty.
At 28 carats, the central stone is the largest mirror or table-cut diamond known to survive, and the five diamonds (ranging from 16 to 28 carats) are the largest known matching set of table-cut diamonds from the Mughal 17th century. It is most likely that the diamonds belonged to a Mughal emperor.
"The presentation of the Mughal Mirror Diamond necklace, containing five extraordinarily well matched mirror diamonds, is causing great excitement in the world of jewellery scholars as well as potential buyers," Bonhams CEO and International Head of Jewellery Matthew Girling said in a statement.
To both Mughal emperors and Indian maharajas, the quality and size of the gem were of paramount importance, and table-cut diamonds were valued for their clarity and size above all else.
At the time, gem-cutters only sought to remove areas with cracks and inclusions, so the shape of the rough gem determined the final outline of the polished stone. As a result, gems had an irregular and asymmetrical form as the cutter was striving for the maximum size possible.
Weighing approximately 96 carats in total, the skilfully rendered table-cut diamonds were designed to emphasise the beauty of the stones without sacrificing their size.
The table-cut description refers to a thin diamond section with a flat top and bottom, where the diamonds have also been faceted around the edge. This faceting acts as a border around the irregular shape of the diamond, to produce a refractive brilliance.
The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) has speculated that the five near colourless diamonds were cut from the same crystal.
The Columbian emerald drops were added at a later date, probably late 18th/ early 19th century.
Pendants such as the necklace were an important element of Mughal jewellery and were used as turban ornaments and armbands.
With changing political regimes, tastes and fashions it is remarkable that the Mughal Mirror Diamond necklace has survived, even with its old setting intact, Bonham's said.
Many of India's royal pieces of jewellery were subjected to the 19th and early 20th century fashion for replacing and recycling old jewels with new, Western settings or re-cutting into brilliant diamonds. And as the Mughal Empire weakened and collapsed, many of the royal jewel collections were dissipated or lost.

Twisted - Screwed - New From Erica Miller

With a passion for blending past and present together in beautiful balance, Erica Miller Designs introduces a signature new line of handcrafted jewelry with timeless, personalized appeal. The collection - including rings, bracelets, cuffs, pendants and earrings - comes in an array of sterling silver and 14k gold pieces, and features distinctive details like twisted wire, tiny screws, inspiring messages, crystals and gemstones.

Each jewelry piece is handcrafted, tumbled and hand-burnished for perfect shine and finish. In ordering many of the pieces, the purchaser can make the call about its features: an initial for a child, loved one, your own monogram or favorite gemstone makes the design special and completely your own. Some of the highlighted Erica Miller Designs which allow you to choose your own metals and vintage stones are: Luck Horseshoe Ring & Pendant ($115), Champagne Hope Ring ($240), Love Monogram Ring ($275), and the whimsical Wish Bracelet ($132). The Love Celebration Pendant, engraved with your desired year or initials, is the perfect keepsake - ideal for an anniversary present or a personal memento.

Adding a classic French twist to everyday jewelry staples, the Plaque de Muselet (champagne cap) designs are the collection favorite. Inspired by the twisted wire and cap on a champagne bottle, Erica created numerous pieces that feature this clever nod to the finer things in life - and each piece can even be customized with monogrammed initials or signs to reflect any moment in the wearer's life journey. With your one-of-a-kind custom touches, a piece from this collection becomes a truly unique reflection of personality and purpose.

Hailing from the Mile High City of Denver, Erica Miller infuses her love of family into all her works - from her first creation, a champagne cap and wire welded together by her husband to form a ring, to her daughter's fairy wand that influenced her Wish collection. Each of these and more are available for purchase on the website. Finding inspiration in the world and people around her, the designer uses everyday objects as the foundation of her craft, whether it's a champagne cap, screws out of her husband's tool closet, or her grandmother's antique wedding ring. The collection can also be found in select boutiques.
