Reena Ahluwalia Launches “Nurture By Reena,” the World's First
Lab-Grown Diamond Designer Jewelry Brand

Milestone marks first-ever designer jewelry brand that exclusively features lab-grown diamonds - merges it with wearable technology & fashion.

Multi-award winning jewelry designer and longtime diamond industry insider, Reena Ahluwalia, today announced the launch of the world's first lab-grown diamond designer jewelry brand – “Nurture By Reena.”

The brand is committed to proudly feature fully disclosed, certified lab-grown diamonds that are origin-guaranteed, conflict-free and environmentally sustainable.

“The Moments Collection” is the first offering from “Nurture By Reena.” It combines diamond jewelry with wearable technology and merges style and fashion with deep personal meaning.

Using QR Code technology opens the door to a unique ecosystem that allows you to attach
your most precious moments to your jewel. The lab-grown diamond pieces flip to discreetly
reveal a QR code that is otherwise hidden from view while the jewelry is worn.

Each cutting-edge design unites the beauty of natural shapes with the precision of modern
technology and brings to life Reena’s love of discovery. And while each piece embodies the
unique vision of the artist, you’re invited to give it personal meaning through the stories you attach to it. Capturing an individual's unique moment and personal messages, the jewel can be effortlessly personalized with content that can be accessed anytime and anywhere. Like the eternal nature of a diamond, your jewel becomes a modern day digital talisman, a time capsule that captures and preserves your moment for eternity.

The Moments Collection is offered in colorless, pink and yellow lab-grown diamonds, with a starting carat weight of 0.40ct. and includes rings, pendants, earrings and bracelets. To date, there are 36 SKUs available in 18k gold, including white, yellow and rose gold.

According to Designer, Reena Ahluwalia, “I looked at blooming flowers for inspiration and symbolism. For me, flowers are like moments – ephemeral, yet deeply memorable."

Reena said, “Let me take you on a journey one could only imagine before. I am proud to bring to you a collection that celebrates the changing consumer values of today, embodies what real love means and helps you express your deepest personal stories. For retailers, this also offers phenomenal value and choices through layers of differentiation, which is essential to stand out in the retail space today.”

#JCKLV - Launch of Mireya Line By Engagement Ring Guru, Harout Aghjayan

Two Industry Veterans Join Forces to Create Collection Highlighted by New ‘Fit’ System

The Mireya bridal jewelry brand is the latest creation from esteemed bridal jewelry designer Harout Aghjayan. Russell Cohen, best known for his successful 23-year career as Chairman and Co-CEO of Carlyle & Co. Jewelers, a $110 million luxury jewelry company, will take the reigns as CEO of Mireya. The brand Mireya, which gets its name from a Spanish word meaning miracle, has set out to become one of sorts for the tradition based bridal jewelry
industry.

With the “pick-a-head” Mireya Fit System, the brand will revolutionize the way that brides-to-be shop and create diamond engagement rings while giving retailers readily available, in store options enabling them to close the sale immediately. The Mireya Fit System takes guessing and imagining out of the buying process, allowing women to try on their exact complete ring – not look at a CAD design on a computer screen or try on a semi-mount. The buyer is presented, in store, with a selection of Mireya rings stocked by the retailer and a set of pre-set center diamonds in various shapes and sizes. Mireya’s rings are engineered to seamlessly accept the pre-set center diamonds with a precise, secure and patented lock-in system, making each ring a complete, custom-created ring. Once a final selection is made, the ring can be fully assembled that same day. The Mireya Fit System also offers additional benefits to retailers and consumers: easy and fast modifications without completely rebuilding a ring, easy upgrades, and for those fewer and fewer grooms selecting a ring without their bride’s input, an insurance policy – if she does not like it, just change it in minutes with a simple visit to the store. Retail prices range from $800 to $2,000.

Mireya will also offer an assortment of finished goods characterized by its signature – a
Renaissance inspired shank design. The cohesive collection, consisting of 20 variations of this
signature style and 185 styles in total are all meticulously handmade of 14K, 18K or Platinum, in the USA, and offer attractive price points in each category. CEO Russell Cohen declares, “I am excited to be a part of this unique initiative in the bridal jewelry market. Beyond the stunning designs, I am confident that the Mireya Fit System will be the key to transforming retailers’ abilities to sell engagement rings.”

“Mireya is the next evolution in engagement rings,” said Harout Aghjayan. He continued, “Pairing stunning design with cutting-edge technology, creates a win-win situation for consumers and retailers alike. I have always been on the forefront of the jewelry
industry and am proud to be bringing this next innovation, which will change the way engagement rings are sold.”

The Mireya brand assortment will expand to include diamond wedding bands, wedding-day
jewelry, everyday diamond jewelry and, in the near future, fashion collections with an updated, sophisticated look, exquisitely articulated and value-oriented. Mireya will officially debut at JCK Las Vegas at Booth 1329 from May 27th to June 2nd, at which time the brand’s advertising campaign, website, and in store displays will be unveiled.

NEW Mineral Found - Purplish Pink Putnisite!

The discovery of a NW mineral isn't an everyday occurrence but a couple in Australia found a   new purple-pink mineral that has a chemical composition and crystalline structure unlike any of the known 4,000 minerals has been discovered at a mining site in Western Australia.

Following is the official Press Release from the University of Adelaide:

New mineral shows nature's infinite variability

Tuesday, 22 April 2014
A University of Adelaide mineralogy researcher has discovered a new mineral that is unique in structure and composition among the world's 4,000 known mineral species.
Published in Mineralogical Magazine, Visiting Research Fellow in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences Dr Peter Elliott has described 'putnisite', found in a surface outcrop at Lake Cowan, north of Norseman in Western Australia.
"What defines a mineral is its chemistry and crystallography," says Dr Elliott, who is also a Research Associate with the South Australian Museum.
"By x-raying a single crystal of mineral you are able to determine its crystal structure and this, in conjunction with chemical analysis, tells you everything you need to know about the mineral.
"Most minerals belong to a family or small group of related minerals, or if they aren't related to other minerals they often are to a synthetic compound - but putnisite is completely unique and unrelated to anything.
"Nature seems to be far cleverer at dreaming up new chemicals than any researcher in a laboratory."
The new mineral occurs as tiny crystals, no more than 0.5 mm in diameter and is found on a volcanic rock. It appears as dark pink spots on dark green and white rock which, under the microscope, appears as square, cube-like crystals. It combines the elements strontium, calcium, chromium, sulphur, carbon, oxygen and hydrogen - a very unusual combination. It has yet to be determined if the new mineral will have any practical use.
The mineral was discovered during prospecting by a mining company in WA and handed on to CSIRO for initial research and then to Dr Elliott for more detailed analysis.
Dr Elliott has researched 12 new Australian minerals in the past seven years and seven of those he found himself.
Two of these new minerals were discovered in South Australia - domerockite and hylbrownite - named respectively after Dome Rock, where the mineral was first was found, and Henry Yorke Lyle Brown, Government Geologist of South Australia from 1882-1912.
Putnisite has been named for Australian mineralogists Andrew and Christine Putnis.

From mining.com:
Putnisite is translucent and brittle. The mineral has no known practical uses. Some of theelements in putnisite are carbon, calcium, chromium and strontium. It's chemical formula is the following:
SrCa4Cr3+8(CO3)8SO4(OH)16·23H2O
The new mineral's name, putnisite, is still not official. It has to be approved by the International Mineralogical Association.
