Record Turnout for Asia’s Largest Spring Jewellery Fair

29th Edition Shines with More than a Dozen Product Zones 

16 February 2012 – More than 3,100 exhibitors from 48 countries and regions, a new exhibitor record, are taking part in the 29th HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, which opened today and continues through 20 February at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). 

The fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), welcomes exhibitors from Argentina, Denmark and Myanmar for the first time, and features more than a dozen product zones. 

Glittering Showcase
Visitors to the fair’s Hall of Fame will find international brands, while the Hall of Extraordinary presents luxurious jewellery and the Hall of Nature displays precious loose jewellery. 

The Designer Galleria is a showcase of hip collections, while specialty interests are represented in the Antique & Vintage Jewellery Galleria, the Hall of Jade Jewellery, the Hall of Time, for watches and clocks, and the Exclusive Showroom, for fine jewellery and diamonds. Hong Kong-based exhibitors have their own spotlight in the World of Glamour section.

Seventeen country and regional pavilions are taking part, alongside trade organisation pavilions for the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, Israel Diamond Institute, Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute, International Colored Gemstone Association, Japan Jewellery Association, Japan Pearl Exporters’ Association and Platinum Guild International. 

Adding to the mix are more than 6,500 buyers from 87 buying missions, representing companies from 75 countries and regions. They include: Brazil’s Amsterdam Sauer, Ann-Louise Jewellers from Canada, the Chinese mainland’s Gems and Jewelry Trade Association of China, Nouveaux Bijoutiers from France, Russia’s Jewelux, South Africa’s Truworths,
Grand Stores from the United Arab Emirates and Ben Bridge Jeweler from the United States.

Special Events
The show is also hosting some 20 special events, including jewellery parades and the Paspaley Pearl and Robert Wan Tahiti Perles auctions. 

The Hall 1 Concourse is showcasing winners of the Chuk Kam Jewellery Design Competition 2012 and the 13th Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition. The latter contest selected Open Group and Student Group winners from 300 entries based on creativity and innovation, aesthetics and craftsmanship, marketability, wearability and topic relevance. The event was held under the theme “Soaring Dragon,” a nod to the lunar Year of the Dragon.

Big on Bling
Hong Kong is the world’s fifth-largest exporter of fine jewellery, with exports last year up 35 per cent from 2010, to US$6 billion (HK$47 billion). The BRICS and other emerging markets are expected to expand demand as their purchasing power grows.

The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show is co-organised by the Hong Kong Jewellers' & Goldsmiths' Association, the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association, the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Association and the Diamond Federation of Hong Kong, China.
