Jewelry And Watch Scoring System (JAWSS.org) Launches

Jewelry And Watch Scoring System (JAWSS.org) Launches:
How Does Your Jewelry Rank?

The Jewelry And Watch Scoring System (www.jawss.org) launched April 23, 2012 to provide transparency to the jewelry manufacturing industry. JAWSS.org gives shoppers access to unbiased evaluations by leading jewelry and watch appraisers.

The Jewelry And Watch Scoring System (JAWSS, www.jawss.org) is set to take a bite out of the secrecy surrounding the jewelry manufacturing industry. The new website provides consumers and retailers alike with unbiased reviews and scores of jewelry manufactures, specific jewelry lines and popular jewelry pieces.

The founder, Louis Valentine, explains, “JAWSS was created to bring some transparency to the jewelry industry. Diamonds and Natural Color Gemstones have been graded for a long time but the rest of the jewelry and watch industry was in the dark. Before JAWSS.org there was no way for a buyer to know if a jewelry piece or watch was worth the money or not. It’s time to change all that and bring unbiased jewelry and watch ratings to the public so they can know the quality of the pieces they are looking at before they purchase.”

According to the US Department of Commerce jewelry and watch sales are a $65 billion dollar market. However, outside of metal marks and precious stone ratings it is difficult for the average consumer to know why one manufacturer is better than another. Why one ring can cost $200 dollars while a similar one by a different manufacturer fetches $2,000.

Similarly, retailers face complex buying decisions when choosing pieces for their stores.  At the JCK show in Las Vegas there are more than 2,500 companies from 22 countries displaying their jewelry and watches to retailers.
“Buyers can spend days looking at thousands of jewelry pieces. It’s mind-boggling. Determining quality is difficult particularly in women’s fashion jewelry and bridge pieces. JAWSS appraisers are busy establishing who is and who isn’t providing a good product,” says Louis Valentine.  “When you spend $50,000 on a car you can read unbiased professional reviews. We think the same thing should be true when you buy a $50,000 watch or necklace- or even a $200 graduation gift.”
JAWSS.org membership is available to everyone for free. A nominal fee to access scores and ratings has been set to support the unbiased reviews. The network also offers consumers the opportunity to rate and review jewelry and watches for free.

JAWSS forwards consumer reviews directly to the manufacturers to promote greater transparency and increase quality standards.

Congratulations to the MJSA!!!

From a field of over 3,300 entries, MJSA, the Industry organization dedicated to furthering professional excellence in jewelry making & design, was recognized in three categories...for the prestigious 2011 Apex Awards!

First for the MJSA Journal, the association's flagship monthly magazine, which provides technical and business information on jewelry making and design to its membership...in my opinion the MJSA Journal makes the cost of membership worth every penny!

MJSA Custom Jeweler, its quarterly publication which offers insights into how to capitalize on the dynamic consumer demand for personalized jewelry. By presenting design trends and first hand stories by Jewelers working in the field...this particular issue offers a wonderful story of a jeweler's custom order for Mardi Gras. But whether it is a suite of jewels for the King of Carnival or an article that talks about the newest technical options for offering your store patrons the ability to personalize pieces.

...and finally for MJSA Online (mjsa.org), which also won a 2010 APEX Award for website content and writing.  If you have ever had a question about current Laws Governing Lead & Cadmium in Children's Jewelry, Cleaning Tips for Jewelers, or Identifying Glass & Lead Filled Rubies...you know you will find that and more at the MJSA website.  Whether you are a member or not the website ALWAYS has great Industry Tips & Techniques!

APEX 2011 awards were based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the success of the entry -- in the opinion of the judges -- in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence.

It is sponsored by Communications Concepts, the publisher ofWriting That Works: The Business Communications Report.

Designer at Close-Out Prices!

Photo: amrita singh featured today at ideeli

If you know me you know that Designer names don't make a huge impact in my life! They do however make a HUGE impact on a large portion of the population. Whether we are willing to admit it or not they determine trend and if you wait long enough you will find knock offs in almost every price point.

I recently discovered a wonderful thing! I don't have to go to the mall or those isolated discount malls to see what people are buying - there are designer outlets on line!!! The three I have listed are ones that I have used - they are membership only so - email me and I will send you a personal invite (YES - I get a monetary pay-off for each invitation - what can I say I am always looking for a discount!) Check them out there is always something new!

GiltGroupe - this week the featured sales on this site range from Oscar de la Renta, Carlos Falchi Python, Botkier, Menswear from Gordon Rush, Jewelry from Ivanka Trump and Alex and Ani !

The offerings at ideeli also varies, with new sales beginning and ending daily today - amrita singh jewelry, Emilio Pucci and one of my all time favorites...Max Studio.

From LuLu handbags to childrens clothing from Feather Babies, today HauteLook offers jeans from Citizens of Humanity, Lauren Conrad Clothing and jewelry from Mary Louise Designs.

Look around - whether you use these sites as inspiration or trend watch - or just for something stylish to wear to your next big function...it is always a fun trip through the style that surrounds us!
