CORONET® AND REENA AHLUWALIA INTRODUCES ‘CORONET BY REENA’ JEWELRY COLLECTION AT BASELWORLD

CORONET® AND REENA AHLUWALIA INTRODUCES ‘CORONET BY REENA’
JEWELRY COLLECTION AT BASELWORLD

  • Hong Kong’s Top Brand Coronet® collaborates with internationally renowned jewelry designer and diamond painter Reena Ahluwalia to launch CORONET BY REENA diamond collection

  • Additional to the diamond collection, on exclusive view will be Reena Ahluwalia’s 4-feet hyper-realistic Coronet® diamond painting.

Hong Kong’s top brand Coronet® of Aaron Shum Jewelry Ltd. is known for innovation and exquisite craftsmanship. In the past two editions of Baselworld, Coronet® presented the Coronet Diamond Guitar and Coronet Gemstone Guitar, the two Guinness World Records setting artifacts that inspired imagination.

This year, Coronet® is proud to unveil their partnership with award-winning Canadian jewelry designer and painter, Reena Ahluwalia, by launching ‘Coronet By Reena Ahluwalia’ line.

‘Inner Brilliance’ – a ‘Coronet By Reena Ahluwalia’ diamond jewelry collection premiered in Baselworld. The collection captures the essence of the patented Coronet setting that ensembles seven round brilliants with an elevated center diamond set without prongs, creating effect of one grand solitaire. The highlighted design element in Reena's story is a pointer that points to the true center of our being - our inner brilliance. A constant reminder to stay connected to what's most valuable to us, including pillars of our personal values - our Family, Friendship, Love, Passion, Health and Dreams. Along with the pointer design element that draws attention to the center Coronet setting, the jewelry pieces also rotate on central axis, creating a mesmerizing effect.

Aaron Shum, founder of Coronet and President of Aaron Shum Jewelry, commented, “With our continuous endeavors to breakthrough in design and technology, Coronet differentiates itself as the trend setter of the industry and this year, we are happy to further the collaboration with jewelry designer and diamond painter, Reena Ahluwalia, by launching a collection of jewelry that inspires the realignment of personal values and allowing our inner brilliance to shine through.”

The ‘Inner Brilliance’ collection comes in colorless diamonds and also in rubies and diamonds combination. There are 21 SKUs available in 18K white, rose and yellow gold. The collection consists of necklace, pendant, earrings and rings. By nature of the patented Coronet setting (where for example, 0.30ct. is able to achieve a look of 1.00ct. solitaire), the collection has a decidedly voluminous multiple-carat look, yet is affordable for self-purchasers.

Along with the jewelry collection, a Baselworld exclusive was Reena Ahluwalia’s 4-feet, hyper-realistic Coronet Diamond Painting that showcases the true beauty and unique characteristics of Coronet® patented diamond setting.

Reena Ahluwalia said, “The ‘Inner Brilliance’ collection is all about self-expression, deep emotional connection to our personal values and a reminder to stay connected to what’s most valuable to us’.

Rio Tinto Unveils Inaugural Bunder Diamond Jewelry

Reena Ahluwalia Designs
'Courageous Spirit' Collection

Rio Tinto Makes Indian Diamond History,
Unveils Inaugural Bunder Diamond Jewelry

Mumbai, India, August 24, 2012 - Rio Tinto unveiled the inaugural Bunder diamond jewelry collection comprising diamonds from the sampling to date at its developing Bunder project in Madhya Pradesh. The Courageous Spirit jewelry collection holds a very special place in Indian diamond history as it has been at least a century since India has mined, designed and manufactured its own diamond jewelry," said Dr Nik Senapati, Managing Director of Rio Tinto India.

Madhya Pradesh-born designer, Reena Ahluwalia was commissioned to design the Courageous Spirit jewelry as a tribute to the women of Madhya Pradesh.

“As a woman born and brought up in the region (Madhya Pradesh), creating this milestone collection is like coming a full circle. I am honoured to tell the Bunder story through my designs and be a part of this historic diamond moment,” commented Reena Ahluwalia, International Award Winning Designer.
The focus of the necklace is a stunning diamond-encrusted disc that symbolizes the natural abundance of the Bunder diamond deposit. Inspired by a compass, the disc rotates on a central axis, while a marker points to the true centre of the Bunder story - the earthly origins of the diamonds and the pioneering spirit of the people who are so integral to Bunder's development. The latitude and longitude coordinates of the Bunder diamond deposit are inscribed on the back of the disc.

Titled "Courageous Spirit", the jewelry features a magnificent statement necklace and a set of complementary earrings. The collection incorporates a total of 25.34 carats of polished Bunder diamonds and 2.8 carats of rough Bunder diamonds, including a 5.04 carat round brilliant cut white diamond and a 5.02 carat round brilliant cut cognac diamond.

Maintaining the important Indian pedigree of the collection, the rough diamonds have been carefully transformed by master craftsmen in Indian cutting and polishing factories, while the innovative design has been brought to life with designer Reena Ahluwalia by Indian jewelry manufacturer Uni-Design Jewellery Private Ltd - a Mumbai-based company with a reputation for exquisite craftsmanship.

Rio Tinto partnered with Venus Jewel and Mahendra Brothers to cut and polish the stones. Guest of Honour at the event was the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

According to Bruce Cox, Managing Director of Rio Tinto Diamonds, "By harnessing the skill and creativity of India's respected diamond artisans, these magnificent jewelry pieces are symbolic of an important new chapter in the country's proud diamond history.

The Bunder project, likely to come into commercial production in 2016, presents enormous opportunities not only for the Madhya Pradesh region, but for the broader Indian diamond industry as well, with Rio Tinto presenting a unique opportunity for India to mine, manufacture and market its own diamonds."

The Courageous Spirit collection is not available for sale, but will be showcased at a number of events throughout the second half of 2012.

About the Bunder Diamond ProjectThe Bunder diamond project was discovered in 2004 by Rio Tinto and in 2010 a State Support Agreement was signed with Government of Madhya Pradesh as an endorsement of the mutual commitment to the development of the project. An Inferred Resource (the first quantifiable estimate of an ore-body) has been defined as 37 million tonnes, containing 27.4 million carats. The Government of Madhya Pradesh gave in principle approval to the issue of a mining lease for the Bunder project via a "Letter of Intent" in January 2012. Rio Tinto is now working on the mine plan, environmental and forestry approvals required to execute a Mining Lease. At least rupees 2200 crore (US$500M) will be required to fully develop the Bunder diamond project.Once developed the Bunder diamond mine is expected to place Madhya Pradesh in the top ten diamond producing regions of the world.

Jewelry designers from across the globe were invited to submit designs in four categories: Champagne Diamonds, Silvermist Diamonds™, Canadian Diamonds and Sustainable Jewelry. After receiving a record number of entries from around the globe, an elite panel of judges from the U.S. jewelry and fashion industries gathered in New York City and reviewed entries from designers from the U.S., Canada, Australia, India, China, and Hong Kong. Nine winners were chosen in total. Reena Ahluwalia, received the prestigious Master Craftsman award in the Canadian Diamonds category.
Set in 18K white gold, 28.96 carat, "Canoe" Canadian diamonds necklace by Reena Ahluwalia is inspired by a poetic image of the magical Canadian landscape and its pristine white winters. It captures a snapshot of a snow covered canoe in a frozen crystalline lake. “Celebrating the magic and beauty of Canada, my home, is the inspiration for my design. Canoe is a carrier of Canadian myths, a symbol very unique to Canada that represents voyage, harmony with nature, discovery and courage. It is one of the greatest gifts the First Nations people gave to all those who came after. A crystalline perspective, this necklace hopes to capture the luminous magic of the True North,” said Ahluwalia.
The necklace comes together with two diamond-studded links embracing the neck that represent the fluidity of lake. Irregular intersecting lines, studded with Ideal Square cut diamonds depict the chunks of floating ice. The necklace culminates into a canoe shaped element. “Canoe” has an angled faceted interior, “I wanted the diamonds to reflect on the opposite facets for a dramatic shine and create an icy crystalline look,” said Ahluwalia.
Crossworks Manufacturing Ltd., the largest manufacturer of branded Canadian diamonds in the world, collaborated with Ahluwalia, sponsored manufacturing and provided Canadian diamonds for the “Canoe” necklace.
In a Daily Jewel exclusive Reena answered a couple of questions...
DJ: What does this win mean to you?
