The Addition of JFine and Three More US Companies Expands Argyle Select Atelier™ Network in U.S. Market

via Press Release

JFine Expands Argyle Select Atelier™ Network

in U.S. Market

Retailers View Argyle Pink Diamond Tender’s Rare Pink,
Red and Violet Diamonds in New York

The Daily Jewel sends congratulations to Jordan Fine and his JFine Jewelers, Michael Pollak of Hyde Park Jewelers, London Jewelers, and Traditional ...

This Fall, JFine, in conjunction with Argyle Pink Diamonds, announced the expansion of a pioneering luxury jewelry program in the U.S. market, featuring the iconic Australian pink diamonds from Rio Tinto’s renowned Argyle Diamond Mine. Exclusive to only the best-in-class U.S. retailers, the group has been awarded the status of an “Argyle Pink Diamond Select Atelier,” ensuring a regular supply of rare Argyle pink diamonds for their jewelry collections.

In recognition of this milestone, a $20m showcase of these limited edition jewelry collections was presented to an exclusive group of journalist and jewelry influencers at JFine’s corporate office in New York; along with a private viewing of the hero diamonds from the 2016 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender.

“When it comes to fine jewelry, Argyle pink diamonds are in a class of their own, much like the Ateliers that now carry the Argyle branded pink diamonds,” noted Jordan Fine, President of JFine Diamonds. “The Ateliers will partner these rare miracles of nature with metal and master craftsmanship to produce inspirational jewelry unlike any other.”

Access to the full range of rare Argyle pink diamonds will provide the opportunity for these Ateliers to create the ultimate statement designs that will be heirlooms for future generations. From extremely rare and collectable bespoke pieces, to more fashion-oriented looks such as stacking bands, pendants and rings, the range of collections created with Argyle pink diamonds will delight a broad range of fashion sensibilities during the upcoming year.

The U.S. Select Ateliers welcomed to the program at the event were London Jewelers, Hyde Park and Traditional, adding to the existing Ateliers, Barmakian, Bachendorfs, Americus, Betteridge, Rosenberg Diamonds and Tappers. Each of these retailers has a stellar reputation both within the industry and within their communities. These Ateliers contribute to the design of a number of jewelry pieces, and carry limited collections in their stores including the popular Azalea and Diamond Halo (photo below) collections.

“We could not be more thrilled to join this international network of exclusive jewelers who have a direct relationship with Argyle Pink Diamonds,” said Michael Pollak, CEO of Hyde Park Jewelers and Traditional Jewelers, newly elected Select Ateliers of Argyle. “Being an Atelier allows us to meet the ever-increasing demand from our discerning clientele for exquisite fine jewelry with ethically sourced pink diamonds. Our clients will also respond to the fact that the chain of custody from mine to our store cases is unbroken.”

A statement ring was unveiled at the event, named the Divine Lotus, the bespoke piece features a 1.45ct Fancy Intense Pink oval diamond, the third largest tender stone, from the 2015 Tender. Valued at over $1,000,000, the Divine Lotus ring features over 3.54 carats of pink diamonds and one carat of blue diamonds from the Argyle mine. The Divine Lotus will go on a national tour to each Select Atelier over the upcoming months.

The 2016 Tender featuring 63 one-of-a-kind diamonds with a total weight of 58.24 carats, is an unprecedented spectrum of color, size and clarity. On display at the event were the five “hero” diamonds selected for their unique beauty, including The Argyle Violet™, a 2.83 carat Fancy Deep Grayish Bluish Violet oval—the largest violet diamond unearthed from the Argyle mine-- and Argyle Thea™, a 2.24 carat Fancy Vivid Purplish Pink radiant.

Argyle Pink Diamonds manager Josephine Johnson said, “The ever increasing rarity of Argyle pink diamonds continues to drive global demand from those in search of incomparable beauty. We are thrilled that the U.S, as the largest jewelry market in the world, is represented by the highest caliber of luxury jewelry retailers with a national footprint, and supported by our Authorised Partner, JFine.”

Golf & Support Jewelers for Veterans - Oct. 1st

NYSJA Golf Outing Will Support Jewelers for Veterans
Jewelers and suppliers to tee off Oct. 1

NEW YORK, NY-The New York State Jewelers Association (NYSJA) will hold its Third Annual Golf Outing on Monday, October 1, 2012, at the Willow Ridge Country Club in Harrison, NY. The group has announced that a portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Jewelers for Veterans Foundation.

The Jewelers for Veterans Foundation is dedicated to connecting U.S. military veterans, men and women, able or disabled, with training and employment in the jewelry industry. Its mission is to address the high unemployment rates prevalent among returning veterans, by offering solutions within the industry. The Foundation pledges to provide assistance on a one-to-one basis, with a highly personal approach to each veteran's needs and wants. Its ultimate goal is to ensure a meaningful job for every applicant who seeks its help and guidance.

"Our U.S. troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are skilled, disciplined, and ready to work--yet they're facing one of the toughest job markets in U.S. history," says John A. Politi, Jr., executive director of the Jewelers for Veterans Foundation. "We are grateful for the support offered us by the New York State Jewelers Association to assist our outreach to the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces."

"We welcome any opportunity to help our returning U.S. veterans with the kind of training and employment assistance that Jewelers for Veterans provides," says Mike Wilson, NYSJA president; and owner, Wilson & Sons Jewelers, Scarsdale and Mount Kisco, NY. "The more companies that attend our golf outing, fund sponsorships, or donate to the auction, the larger the donation NYSJA can make to Jewelers for Veterans."

The outing has already secured some fabulous prizes, including a BMW, sponsored by Ray Catena's BMW of Westchester, NY, as a "Hole in One Prize". Other sponsorships and tickets are still available, but going fast. For additional information on tickets, sponsorships, or auction donations, please contact Barbara Keefe, NYSJA executive director, at BKeeferose@aol.com.

Lost Wax Jewelry Making: The Build-up Technique by Minoru Azama - Complete Edition
One of the few books available on wax modelmaking; "Lost Wax Jewelry Making: The Build-up Technique" by Minoru Azama, printed in Japanese by Kashiwa Hobby Books. 1999.

Azama process emphasizes building up wax as opposed to starting with a wax blank and carving away material. He uses this approach for organic as well as geometric subjects. The potential of this technique is unlimited!

Azama's work is outstanding, some of it so very precise and geometric that one would think it had been carved of hard wax. The book was written for students at the Japan Jewelry Academy, and Mr. Azama has been generous enough to write a complete English translation.

Royal Asscher - Banking On Japan!

Bravo to Royal Asscher - as companies are looking to get out of Japan and a failing economy - Royal Asscher is banking on the Japanese culture and the country's historic ability to come back in a big way, with it's first flagship store in Asia!!!!
From Royal Asscher's Press Release:

The Asscher family is proud  to announce that in cooperation with its Japanese partner Nagahori Corporation, Royal Asscher opened its first flagship store in Japan on Friday, July 15, 2011. The store is located on the famous Ginza Street in the center of  Tokyo and represents the company’s first flagship store in Asia.
Royal Asscher’s unique heritage and history along with its passion for ethical and socially responsible behavior dates back to 1854. This enduring legacy, facilitated by the company’s devotion to bring beautiful, coveted jewelry to markets across the globe has led them to this momentous occasion. It will be followed by the opening of flagship stores in the People’s Republic of China.
Edward Asscher, President of the company said when opening the store, “The Asscher family is proud to open its first flagship store in Tokyo. It shows our total commitment to Japan in these difficult times. We have great respect for the solidarity and vigor the Japanese people have shown to rebuild and overcome their predicament. We are thrilled to continue building our relationship and being part of the most memorable moments of people lives”.
"We have great respect for the solidarity and vigor the Japanese people have shown to rebuild and overcome their predicament. "   Edward Asscher of Royal Asscher
Situated in a prime location, in the heart of the luxury shopping area, and in the company of other reputable stores such as LVMH, Bulgari and Chanel, the opening of the Ginza store is a remarkable achievement not only for Royal Asscher as a company but also because it is the first Dutch store on the Ginza.
The interior of the modern store is decorated in white contrasting with Royal Asscher’s signature blue and showcases a wide variety of Royal Asscher diamond engagement rings and jewelry. In commemoration of the opening of the store, a Royal Asscher diamond tiara has been created containing a total of 10 carats of diamonds set in platinum and worth US$385,000. The tiara will be loaned as a special treat to brides who purchase a Royal Asscher engagement ring in the Ginza store, thus giving them the opportunity to enjoy the true brilliance of a Royal Asscher diamond on their head as well as on their finger.
ABOUT ROYAL ASSCHER DIAMONDS
Founded in 1854, Royal Asscher Diamond Company is run by The Asscher Family. The Asscher Family dynasty to this day continues to have an influence on the diamond industry. Joseph Asscher, at the request of King Edward VII, cut the largest diamond ever found, the famous 3,105-carat Cullinan diamond.

Royal Asscher has also made its mark by refusing to work with conflict diamonds that originate from war torn countries that are unethically sourced and sold to fund warfare and civil destruction. Royal Asscher only sources diamonds from nations that are fully compliant with the Kimberly Process, an international diamond industry initiative to stop the flow of conflict diamonds. One of the company’s founding fathers, Edward Asscher was one of the forefathers of this initiative, Royal Asscher requires that all of its diamonds are labeled by the government at the origination point and securely sealed during transportation.

Royal Asscher created their own signature patented cut in 2001, which has 74 facets, that’s 16 more than the traditional cut diamond.  It is based on their original Asscher cut dated 1902. The innovation and skill level of Royal Asscher has been passed down from generation to generation. Now on its 4th generation owners the companies still upholds their reputation for excellence.

Push Presents...WHAT?!

Courtesy Neil Lane, Inset: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty
OK - I am sure that we have all seen the A-MA-ZING Neil Lane Platinum and Diamond Ring that Rachel Zoe's hubby gave to the Fashion Stylist to the Stars as a "Push Present".

People Magazine reports that:

Zoe’s “push present” was a nearly 10 carat cushion-cut diamond ring designed by jeweler Neil Lane.

“Rodger wanted to surprise Rachel with something romantic — and huge,” says Lane of the sparkler, adorned with smaller diamonds in a platinum setting. “I knew she’s wanted a cushion cut forever. It was their first baby and she’s been working so hard that Rodger wanted to do something very special. Rachel was thrilled and hasn’t taken it off since!”
I don't know about you but I am pretty sure that my mother didn't get a Push Present - so I started wondering where did this custom come from?
Jewelers looking to make more sales?
Mother's who wanted a new reason for gorgeous things?
So - I went to Wikipedia!  ...and got a surprise!
Defined as: push present is a present a new father gives a new mother when she gives birth to their child. In practice the present may be given before or after the birth, or even in the delivery room. The giving of push presents has supposedly grown in the United States in recent years.
The History of the Push Present:
"The tradition of gift-giving to commemorate a birth has long roots in England and India. The term "push present" first appeared in a publication in 1992.  In 2005, the Southeast-United States jewelry chain Mayors marketed diamond earrings with the line "She delivered your first born, now give her twins." Fortunoff, a jewelry and gift chain store, established a push present registry in 2007.
There is, however, no conclusive evidence that the present was invented by the jewelry industry to sell more goods, and until recently it was passed on largely by word of mouth or peer pressure among both mothers and fathers.  According to Linda Murray, the executive editor of BabyCenter.com, "It’s more and more an expectation of moms these days that they deserve something for bearing the burden for nine months, getting sick, ruining their body. The guilt really gets piled on."Other sources trace the development of the present to the increased assertiveness of women, allowing them to ask for a present more directly, or the increased involvement of the men in pregnancy, making them more informed of the pain and difficulties of pregnancy and labor."
So - what do you think to Push (present) or not to Push (present)?  that is your question...

The Red Carpet...

"The Red Carpet" - the words alone bring to mind visions of privileged people in glamorous gowns draped in diamonds and jewels...we are mesmerized.

For jewelers these are important events - a celebrity in your jewelry on the right "Red Carpet" can be a catalyst in a jewelers career.

...and for some of us it is just mesmerizing to watch all the beauty going down the carpet...and several trends have come off the red carpet. But who has time to look for coverage of each and every Red Carpet Event?! Certainly not me! So I am going to share my favorite coverage of all things "Red Carpet"... Red Carpet Fashion Awards!

Red Carpet Fashion Awards is on every red carpet - everywhere - right now the coverage is Cannes and when I say coverage, this site COVERS it! With shots of the gown from the haute couture runways next to a shot of a star wearing the same gown.

While the site does a fairly good job of covering jewelry (I only wish they posted the Designer names) with closer views and when possible the name of the Designer.

So - lets take a Red Carpet Fashion Awards look at Cannes 2010:

Fan Bingbing in a gold one-sleeved print gown looks to be an update of traditional embroidered oriental gowns with dragons and waves crashing along the hem. She is showing off large glittering earrings with a wide bracelet combo - this is a standard runway look for the last few seasons.

This is a great example of runway to real person - Elie Saab from the runway and on the lovely Helen Mirren - BTW those are Chopard Diamond Cuffs that Helen added to the look.

...Helen Mirren again - she knows how to show the jewels...again in Elie Saab and Chopard, but I thought that you would be excited to see that there have been several necklaces and neckpieces worn at Cannes 2010!

All photos are from the Red Carpet Fashion Awards site and are used here to entice you to click through and check out the daily posts from the Red Carpet events around the world!
