The Addition of JFine and Three More US Companies Expands Argyle Select Atelier™ Network in U.S. Market

via Press Release

JFine Expands Argyle Select Atelier™ Network

in U.S. Market

Retailers View Argyle Pink Diamond Tender’s Rare Pink,
Red and Violet Diamonds in New York

The Daily Jewel sends congratulations to Jordan Fine and his JFine Jewelers, Michael Pollak of Hyde Park Jewelers, London Jewelers, and Traditional ...

This Fall, JFine, in conjunction with Argyle Pink Diamonds, announced the expansion of a pioneering luxury jewelry program in the U.S. market, featuring the iconic Australian pink diamonds from Rio Tinto’s renowned Argyle Diamond Mine. Exclusive to only the best-in-class U.S. retailers, the group has been awarded the status of an “Argyle Pink Diamond Select Atelier,” ensuring a regular supply of rare Argyle pink diamonds for their jewelry collections.

In recognition of this milestone, a $20m showcase of these limited edition jewelry collections was presented to an exclusive group of journalist and jewelry influencers at JFine’s corporate office in New York; along with a private viewing of the hero diamonds from the 2016 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender.

“When it comes to fine jewelry, Argyle pink diamonds are in a class of their own, much like the Ateliers that now carry the Argyle branded pink diamonds,” noted Jordan Fine, President of JFine Diamonds. “The Ateliers will partner these rare miracles of nature with metal and master craftsmanship to produce inspirational jewelry unlike any other.”

Access to the full range of rare Argyle pink diamonds will provide the opportunity for these Ateliers to create the ultimate statement designs that will be heirlooms for future generations. From extremely rare and collectable bespoke pieces, to more fashion-oriented looks such as stacking bands, pendants and rings, the range of collections created with Argyle pink diamonds will delight a broad range of fashion sensibilities during the upcoming year.

The U.S. Select Ateliers welcomed to the program at the event were London Jewelers, Hyde Park and Traditional, adding to the existing Ateliers, Barmakian, Bachendorfs, Americus, Betteridge, Rosenberg Diamonds and Tappers. Each of these retailers has a stellar reputation both within the industry and within their communities. These Ateliers contribute to the design of a number of jewelry pieces, and carry limited collections in their stores including the popular Azalea and Diamond Halo (photo below) collections.

“We could not be more thrilled to join this international network of exclusive jewelers who have a direct relationship with Argyle Pink Diamonds,” said Michael Pollak, CEO of Hyde Park Jewelers and Traditional Jewelers, newly elected Select Ateliers of Argyle. “Being an Atelier allows us to meet the ever-increasing demand from our discerning clientele for exquisite fine jewelry with ethically sourced pink diamonds. Our clients will also respond to the fact that the chain of custody from mine to our store cases is unbroken.”

A statement ring was unveiled at the event, named the Divine Lotus, the bespoke piece features a 1.45ct Fancy Intense Pink oval diamond, the third largest tender stone, from the 2015 Tender. Valued at over $1,000,000, the Divine Lotus ring features over 3.54 carats of pink diamonds and one carat of blue diamonds from the Argyle mine. The Divine Lotus will go on a national tour to each Select Atelier over the upcoming months.

The 2016 Tender featuring 63 one-of-a-kind diamonds with a total weight of 58.24 carats, is an unprecedented spectrum of color, size and clarity. On display at the event were the five “hero” diamonds selected for their unique beauty, including The Argyle Violet™, a 2.83 carat Fancy Deep Grayish Bluish Violet oval—the largest violet diamond unearthed from the Argyle mine-- and Argyle Thea™, a 2.24 carat Fancy Vivid Purplish Pink radiant.

Argyle Pink Diamonds manager Josephine Johnson said, “The ever increasing rarity of Argyle pink diamonds continues to drive global demand from those in search of incomparable beauty. We are thrilled that the U.S, as the largest jewelry market in the world, is represented by the highest caliber of luxury jewelry retailers with a national footprint, and supported by our Authorised Partner, JFine.”

...and our favorite at "The Daily Jewel...the Pink Princess!

YES! an #Olympic #Jewelry Story! It Happened In The Pool #JewelryMoment

First - allow me a moment to introduce Kathleen Baker, 2016 Women's Olympic Swim Team.  This is a video she did earlier this year for USA Swimming.

In the piece the nineteen year old headed to Rio with the 7th fastest time in the world and a fiercely competitive nature from a very young age.

In a recently published New York Times piece  she reflects on "coming out" about her battle with Chron’s disease and the nay-sayers that said she couldn't swim competitively.

She also brings up her superstitions surrounding swim meet attire, which usually includes “blue sparkle Uggs” and her connection with pearls and the pearl earrings she wears to every meet.

Following her qualifying round it was brought to her attention ( while she spoke to the poolside interviewer) that one of her trademark pearl earrings was missing!  Had she lost it during the celebration in the pool following the prelims?  ...or on the deck while lining up for the obligatory post event interviews?

The staff at the Olympic Swimming venue went above and beyond to recover the missing pearl earring...  see the video here: http://www.nbcolympics.com/video/diver-recovers-kathleen-bakers-missing-pearl-earring

They found it!

Continuing to surprise people, Cal Sophomore Kathleen Baker, won the Silver medal in the women’s 100 Back final on Monday night.

Her hometown paper, The Charlotte Observer quoted her as follows:
"A giddy Baker first described the race afterward like this: “So incredible! I mean I went a best time and just got a medal! I couldn’t even put into words how happy I am and how grateful for the amount of support I have here from the teammates and coaches along the way. It just takes a village for everyone to get me here and I couldn’t be happier.”

...and due to the diligence of the Olympic venue she appeared on the podium to accept her Silver Medal in her pearl earrings.

I am loving Kathleen's style her nail polish ROCKS and all us "pearly girls" need to stick together.

GIA Pilots Automated Melee Analysis Service for Round D-to-Z Diamond Melee

From a Press Release

One of the major hot button issues in the Industry has been the introduction of synthetic or "cultured" Diamonds.  Whether you are a small shop, a large chain or the independant jewelry designer - this topic matters.  It is going to take concentration and some organizational skills to keep synthetics (especially melee) separate on your work bench.....

GIA Pilots Melee Analysis Service for Diamonds
Automated analysis and color sorting for round D-to-Z melee

To address concerns in the gem and jewelry industry about the possibility of synthetic or treated diamonds being mixed into parcels of melee, GIA has developed a fully automated system to rapidly and accurately analyze and sort round D-to-Z melee-size diamonds.

The pilot for the GIA Melee Analysis Service launched last month at GIA’s New York laboratory.  Current clients wishing to participate in the pilot should contact their client service representative. The service will be offered at all GIA locations, with the roll out beginning in the third quarter of 2016.

“This system, which incorporates proven instrumentation, standards and processes used in GIA laboratories, will give the industry and consumers confidence in the characteristics, including color, of these most prevalent stones,” said Tom Moses, GIA’s executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer.

The GIA Melee Analysis Service will separate natural, untreated diamonds from simulants and potentially synthetic or treated diamonds, and sort the screened diamonds by color range. Clients can also specify a size range for their parcel. The system applies GIA’s decades of research into and examination of treated and synthetic diamonds, and will process about 1,800 stones per hour around the clock.

The system can accommodate stones from 1.1 to 3.8 mm in diameter (approximately 0.005 ct to about 0.20 ct.) The cost of the service ranges from eight to 30 cents (U.S.) per stone based on diameter, with a minimum of 500 pieces in each parcel. Once sorted, the melee will be sealed in secure packaging for shipment directly to a third party – upon request and when permissible – or back to the submitting client.

#JWLV - Jewelry With History and Consummate Craftsmanship

One of the things that really impresses me about "Old World" Craftsmen is their attention to detail - not content to design and realize an elaborate piece of fine jewelry, they often went one step farther and conceived a custom made box to cradle the item...

This is just one of the things I most look forward to at

Scott Kay to Join LUXURY & JCK Las Vegas 2013

Acclaimed Bridal Designer Joins LUXURY & JCK Las Vegas Shows

Norwalk, CT (February 14, 2013) - JCK Events announced today that the LUXURY and JCK Las Vegas 2013 shows will welcome veteran bridal brand/designer Scott Kay to its roster of exhibitors. The addition of the industry icon will further enhance the impressive designer bridal portfolio. The LUXURY show is set to take place May 28th to June 3rd, JCK Las Vegas runs May 31st through June 3rd, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Scott Kay, the eponymous bridal jewelry collection launched in 1984, has been a beacon of the bridal jewelry industry for nearly 30 years. Designer Scott Kay’s artisan quality craftsmanship, innovative design and forward-thinking use of metals has served as an inspiration for the category, including both men’s and women’s designs, and has paved the way for a successful fashion component as well. Scott Kay’s uncompromising design philosophy and the resulting collection have translated into marked success at the retail level and an impressive level of consumer awareness.

"We are extremely pleased that Scott Kay will be joining the JCK family," says JCK's Yancy Weinrich. "To add such an in-demand and noteworthy designer talent to our portfolio brings the LUXURY and JCK experience to another level for our attendees. Scott has been a bridal tour de force for years and given so much to this industry, that it is an honor to have him represented alongside our collective of remarkable brands."

On the day of the announcement, by phone, Scott Kay added "I have decided to showcase our work at LUXURY and JCK for quite a few reasons, namely that JCK’s range of retailers and merchants fits the growing dynamics of where our industry is moving. Some of the best, most knowledgeable jewelers attend JCK for raw materials and these are the people I am trying to engage; those looking for the real, unique craft of jewelry. As a specialist in the bridal category, and as an artist, I love to push the envelope with my sculpture. My range (a 40,000 person audience) and JCK’s range makes this the appropriate stage for my brand and passion.  I joined JCK for the quality, audience and diversification. I also love the seven day format; the convenience for my clients played a big role is this decision."

In addition to JCK’s and Scott Kay’s excitement over the announcement, some key jewelry insiders, from both retail and brand-side, weighed in:

Jennifer McCullough, of Smyth Jewelers and LUXURY advisory Board member remarked, "I can't begin to share how excited I am that Scott Kay is joining LUXURY and JCK.  This will make it easier for me to see first-hand his new launches and designs in Las Vegas.  Scott Kay’s new bridal and fashion lines will supersede everyone’s expectations, including his existing accounts and people who are not yet familiar with his vision as a designer. I know retailers will feel he is a valuable addition to LUXURY and JCK."

Joel Schecter, CEO of Honora, shared, "We were thrilled to learn that Scott Kay will show at LUXURY and JCK this year. The addition of Scott Kay the company, as well as Scott Kay the person---one of the few real artists in our industry---continues to validate and strengthen the LUXURY model as the most important branded high- end show in Las Vegas.
